Small Grants

Small grants objectives / purpose

Edukans Foundation (EF) reserves and made available funds for small projects in Kenya of grassroots organizations who work in education and had  strong involvement with local target groups, but had difficulties to access funds from international donor organizations. This small grants fund enabled grassroots initiatives to come up and improve their capacities. Needy local public schools benefited from this initiatives which improved facilities availability for quality learning.

These projects were implemented through local CBOs or directly with the Schools’ Management Committees. The different projects that were supported in different schools including:Libraries, Classrooms, Toilets, and administration blocks.

2010: St.Catherines children centre-kibera (Nairobi),Olaiyankalani-Kajiado, Sunoni primary –Samburu, Gerliech primary-Nyando, Illoi primary school-Kitui, Ibbitsi primary school-Vihiga

2011: Emakhwale primary-Kakamega, Bethsaida –Dandora (Nairobi), St.Peters Khaunga secondary-Kakamega,Kibunja primary-Nakuru, Ralakgirls  secondary- Siaya, Kirkuria primary-Kajiado

2012: Ng’ombeni primary-Kilifi, Kaptolomwo primary-Pokot,Cheptiret primary-Eldoret,Namanga primary- Kakamega,Loltulelei primary-Samburu


- Increased enrollments made possible by more classrooms 

- Increased grassroot capacity in resource mobilization

- Improved performance due to improved learning environments
